The tales of folded sprits
Conceptual book project
The Japanese Fairytales book is a creative project completed within a HTW Berlin Communication design Study program. The challenge was to create a concept of a book, design the layout and produce a physical copy.
The Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA) is Adobe’s prestigious global competition that recognizes and supports student and emerging creatives. This project was selected as a semi-finalist in the 2018 edition, highlighting it as one of the year's top student works globaly.
Book Concept
"The Tales of Folded Spirits" is a conceptual book project that brings Japanese fairytales to life through a unique triangular format. This multi-sensory experience weaves together a curated selection of traditional stories, each accompanied by custom illustrations, an original song, and interactive origami elements. For every tale, readers can fold a key character using included origami paper - designed not only for folding but also printed with the lyrics of its corresponding song, laid out in a distinctive visual composition. The book is both a narrative journey and a hands-on exploration of storytelling, sound, and form.
In this project, I took on the challenge of exploring an unconventional triangular book format, which introduced unique constraints to traditional book design principles. The result is a carefully crafted set of pages with well-balanced proportions of text and white space.
